Hernandez is behind Robin van Persie and Wayne
Rooney in the United pecking order and also has to compete with
England’s Danny Welbeck for a place.
As a result, the forward known as Chicharito – Little Pea – has voiced his frustration at his restricted opportunities.
But United boss David Moyes has made it clear Hernandez, 25, is a part of his plans and has a role to play at the club.
Talks on a new deal, therefore, could get under way in January.
Hernandez
will have two years left on his current £60,000-a-week deal at the end
of this season. And he has been linked with possible moves to Arsenal or
Tottenham, plus Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid.
The
key to the outcome of his United talks could be whether, even on
improved terms, he is prepared to be used mainly as a substitute.
Hernandez, who has a proven scoring touch, sees himself as more than just an impact player.
One
player more likely to be on the way out of United is Danish goalkeeper
Anders Lindegaard, who has lost the battle with David de Gea for the
No.1 spot, with a move to Italy most likely.
